YOUNG ILLUSTRATORS STUDIO

Meet the YIS Team!

YIS’s dynamic, open-minded culture values respect, innovation, and collaboration as we foster growth mindset.

Hello I’m so glad you’re here! I am a self-taught award-winning, exhibiting, working artist. My work includes digital and traditional illustration, mixed-media and experimental painting, childrens books, mural art and more!

I LOVE hanging out with other artists, and that’s who your kids are! I am known to be an encouraging, enthusiastic, kind and knowledgable teacher. I love teaching kids and teens of all abilities and backgrounds and facilitating connection, collaboration and helping students find their voice and trust their intuition!

I have taught elementary, middle and high school aged students in art, creative writing, drawing, painting, comics, stop motion animation, digital animation, character design, and fundamental art principles like shape, line, perspective, color, composition, texture, mark-making and more! I am a member of the Society of Children's Books Writers and Illustrators and the Art Brand Alliance. I am represented by Adria Goetz at KT Literary Agency.

Most days you can find me making art, writing, reading, in the woods, swimming, dancing or having fun with my family and friends!

Hi THERE!

I am an illustrator, author, and all-around creative based out of the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. After departing the corporate foodie world as a designer and art director in 2014, I returned to my first loves of illustration and storytelling. I work primarily with traditional media, often utilizing watercolor, gouache, graphite, and colored pencil on the page, along with a pop of digital magic once in awhile.

You’ll often find me drawing for hours in the studio with John Denver records on repeat, pausing for tea and cookies, then getting outside before the sun sets to breathe some fresh air on a mountain trail with my sweet dog, Honey Pot.

I am represented by Charlotte Wenger at Prospect Agency. You can find my debut picture book, Wonder & Awe, anywhere books are sold!

Hi there! I'm a picture book author and illustrator living in Washington, USA. My work is inspired by the countless interactions I've had with kids after 20 wonderful years as a classroom teacher and my experience growing up as a biracial army brat. I live with my husband, two kids, and our dog Daisy.

I'm the author and illustrator of HOW TO HUG A PUFFERFISH, which won the Washington State Picture Book award in 2023. Look for my newest books SANDCASTLES ARE FOREVER (Roaring Brook, Spring 2024) and A GEODUCK IS NOT A DUCK written by Candy Wellins (Little Bigfoot, Spring 2024).

I'm the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion coordinator for the Western Washington chapter of SCBWI, City of Kirkland Library Board member, and on the advisory committee of the Bigfoot Kids' Book Festival. I'm represented by Adria Goetz of KT Literary.

Hi, I’m Justin Campbell, a Puerto Rican/Liberian-American author/illustrator and professional performer based in Brooklyn, NY.

I love mixing visual and performance art, being inspired by my background in dance, movement, and theater. With the desire to be the “griot” of the family, I write stories that explore, and celebrate the interconnectivity, imperfection, and uniqueness of BIPOC people while challenging stereotypes and narrow constructions of identity, gender norms, and the stigmatization of queerness. I aim to reveal the softness, gentleness, and vulnerability of Black/Brown characters.

I graduated from Montclair State University with a BFA in Dance and a Minor in Art Studio & Design (Illustration). I now perform professionally, nationally, and internationally.

For more information about my performance career, visit www.justincampbellnyc.com.

I write for the child I was who struggled to navigate a world that did not see him and my greatest wish is to be a true storyteller OF and FOR the world by adding to the legacy of BIPOC stories and characters, paying tribute to ancestral influence, and helping facilitate change for the future.
